Early Payment EMI Calculator
An Early Payment EMI Calculator evaluates the financial impact of loan prepayments on a borrower's EMI, remaining tenure, and outstanding principal balance. By comparing the original loan schedule against the revised prepayment scenario, it provides flexible optimization strategies to either reduce monthly EMI payments, shorten the loan tenure, or balance both. Input
How This Calculator Works
A prepayment is an extra lump sum paid towards your loan. It cuts the outstanding balance straight away. You can then either keep the same tenure and pay a lower EMI, or keep the same EMI and finish the loan sooner, or pick your own EMI and see how long it will take.
The Formulas
Months to repay = log[EMI ÷ (EMI − Balance × r)] ÷ log(1 + r)
What Each Input Does
- Loan Start Date / Prepayment Date
- The number of whole months between them is how many EMIs were paid before the prepayment. It must be at least one month and within the tenure.
- Loan Amount, Interest Rate (%), Original Tenure (Months)
- Your original loan, used to work out the original EMI and the balance on the prepayment date.
- Prepayment Amount
- The lump sum you pay. It cannot be more than the outstanding balance.
- Calculation Type
-
Reduce EMI โ same remaining months, lower EMI.
Reduce Tenure โ same EMI, fewer months.
Customize โ you enter a New EMI and the calculator works out the months needed.
Step by Step
- The original EMI is worked out from the loan amount, rate and tenure.
- The loan is paid down month by month up to the prepayment date to find the outstanding balance.
- The prepayment is subtracted from that balance.
- The new EMI or new tenure is worked out on the reduced balance, depending on the option you chose.
Reading the Result
If the prepayment clears the whole balance, no further EMIs are needed.
