How This Calculator Works

This calculator projects how much your investments could grow to. You can invest a fixed amount every month (SIP), every year, or all at once (lumpsum). Returns are reinvested, so you earn returns on your returns as well.

The Formulas

Monthly SIP: FV = P × [(1 + i)n − 1] ÷ i × (1 + i)
Lumpsum: FV = P × (1 + r)t
i = annual return ÷ 12  ยท  n = years × 12  ยท  r = annual return  ยท  t = years  ยท  Yearly SIP uses the SIP formula with r and t

What Each Input Does

Investment Type
Monthly SIP โ€“ a fixed amount at the start of every month.
Yearly โ€“ a fixed amount at the start of every year.
Lumpsum โ€“ one investment made today.
Investment Amount
The monthly, yearly or one-time amount, depending on the type.
Expected Return (% p.a.)
The yearly return you expect. For monthly SIP it is split into a monthly rate.
Duration (Years)
How long you stay invested. For monthly SIP it is rounded to the nearest whole month.

Step by Step

  1. Each contribution is grown at the expected return until the end of the period.
  2. Contributions are made at the start of each period, so each one earns a full period of return.
  3. The grown values are added up to give the maturity value.
  4. Total returns = maturity value − total amount invested.

Reading the Result

Maturity value โ€“ what your money may grow to. Returns are not guaranteed.
Total returns โ€“ the growth on top of what you put in.

Quick Example

At 12% for 10 years: a monthly SIP of 10,000 (1,200,000 invested) grows to 2,323,391; a yearly investment of 120,000 (1,200,000 invested) grows to 2,358,550; a lumpsum of 100,000 grows to 310,585.
